COBB HALL

Mitchell/Matthews designed the renovation and expansion of Cobb Hall, a 400-bed, 110,000 GSF student dormitory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The comprehensive renovation reconfigured and upgraded the character and quality of all common areas, provided new program spaces, and replaced all mechanical and electrical systems. A prominent addition projecting into the courtyard includes elevators, lounges, bathrooms, and spaces for studying and gathering. Please visit our "Interiors" section for more information.

Since its transformation, Cobb Hall has proven well-liked by students — UNC's Housing Department called it "one of the most popular halls to live in after the renovation." Additionally, both the State Fire Marshall's Office and the University praised the clarity, completeness and detail of the construction drawings Mitchell/Matthews created for Cobb Hall.
