WATSON MANOR

Completed in early 2008, Watson Manor provides a new home for the University of Virginia affiliated Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture. Mitchell/Matthews was asked to program and design the conversion of this turn-of-the-century Queen Anne mansion into a center for research, instruction, and accommodation for visiting scholars. This project required substantial public review and includes a comprehensive renovation of the existing four-level mansion, as well as a 13,000 square foot addition to accommodate offices, conference area, library, lounge, and residential quarters. Parking will be tucked away in a garage hidden beneath the addition.
