300 TWIN SYCAMORES

Once a boarding house, this three-level, circa-1920 stone building is located only a short distance from the Central Grounds of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. It is now a live/work unit providing a home for Mitchell/Matthew Architects. We renovated and expanded the first two levels to accommodate our growing staff and to create comfortable and efficient interiors consistent with our design philosophy. The old screened-in porch was divided into two halves, the front half transformed into an open porch with a prominent white entrance portico while the back half was extended and enclosed to create a bright and airy conference room. The third floor was converted into a large residential apartment, and will soon be expanded and renovated further. We have acquired the adjoining property and have begun the development of a landscape masterplan to tie the two parcels into a cohesive whole.
