UVA RESEARCH PARK
The team of Mitchell/Matthews & DPZ was selected to design a new Town Center for the 562-acre University of Virginia Research Park, located along the banks of the North Fork of the Rivanna River, adjacent to Charlottesville's main airport. When completed, the Park will provide up to 3 million square feet of research/development, hotel, conference, retail, commercial, and related support space. Public plazas surrounded by cafés and tree-lined boulevards will provide a rich mixed-use setting, in many ways evocative of Thomas Jefferson's "Academical Village" for the research community to work, relax, socialize, live and entertain guests. Additionally, 200 of the site's 562 acres have been reserved as greenspace, reflecting a commitment on the part of the University and the designers to facilitate healthy growth with as little impact on the environment as possible.
