Institute of Advanced Studies in Cultures, UVA : Charlottesville, VA

Mitchell/Matthews was asked to program and design the conversion of this turn-of-the-century Queen Anne mansion into a center for administration, research, instruction and accommodations for visiting scholars.  The project required substantial public review and includes a comprehensive renovation of the existing four-level mansion, as well as a 13,000sf addition which accommodates offices, a conference area, library, lounge and residential quarters.  The completed renovation is the new home for the University of Virginia-affiliated Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture.

The IASC project at the University of Virginia won the 2008 Remodeling Design Award for Excellence in Design and Construction.
